Armenia FM: We witnessed genocide in our region not only 110 years ago but also last year
Yerevan — We are witnessing genocidal acts, manifestations in different corners of the world, especially in armed conflict zones, said Armenia’s Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said in his speech at the 5th Global Forum Against the Crime of Genocide, in Yerevan Thursday.
Mirzoyan noted that the international community is starting to talk more about and pay attention to genocides and other mass crimes when they are already established facts.
“We witnessed this in our region not only in the case of the Armenian Genocide about 110 years ago, but literally last year [in Nagorno-Karabakh] when it seemed that enough risk factors were visible to the world that could lead to irreversible consequences.
Unfortunately, we were unable to prevent it, and today we are witnessing those irreversible consequences. This is one of the examples when the reaction of the international structures was not equal to the risk factors and the situation created on the ground,” said the Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan
