Armenian Apostolic Church Condemns Quran Burning in Swede
In a statement, Archbishop Chiftchian described the recurrence of desecration of the Quran or any other sacred book as an insulting and provocative act.
He said such an inhuman move is rejected by all noble people and those who support peace and security.
All divine faiths condemn this ignoble act, he said, adding that these Islamophobic moves take place with support from the global Zionism but they will fail to undermine people’s faith in the divine book.
They will only strengthen the unity among followers of different divine religions, he underscored.
Archbishop Chiftchian called on all freedom-seeking nations to also condemn this brazen act so that no one will dare to insult religious sanctities again.
He also urged international institutions to decisively tackle such moves and prevent their recurrence.
On Friday, a Swedish woman burned a copy of the Holy Quran at Gustav Adolfs Torg Square in Stockholm while also carrying a cross.
According to footage of the event on social media, the woman was accompanied by a man who had an Israeli flag on his shoulder.
She was the same woman who desecrated the Holy Quran last week near Stockholm.
The acts of Quran desecration come as Sweden has been widely condemned by Muslim states and organizations for allowing such acts to happen under the guise of freedom of speech.
Sweden announced last year that it was considering legal measures that would enable police to deny demonstration permits on the grounds of national security, however, no practical step has been taken by the officials so far.
This is while Denmark enacted legislation last December criminalizing the public burning of Quran copies.
