Armenian war veteran completes two-month jail term over social media post

Armenian human rights lawyer Ruben Melikyan reportrd that war veteran Sargis Melkonyan has served a two-month prison sentence for a social media post.

In a statement on social media on Saturday, Melikyan said Melkonyan had been released from the Nubarashen prison after serving what he called an “unjust sentence”. He also noted that many others in Armenia continue to be quietly imprisoned and released without public attention.

“While Sargis was in prison, the number of political prisoners in Armenia doubled and tripled. Freedom to all political prisoners!” Melikyan wrote.
