Border Agreement Between Yerevan and Baku in Line with OSCE Guidelines, Justice Minister Says
Armenia’s Justice Minister Grigor Minasyan that a new border agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan signed last week meets with all the guidelines of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.
Armenia announced on Friday that it has signed another agreement with Azerbaijan laying out the principles of delineating the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
Armenia’s Foreign Ministry released the text of the agreement on Monday, saying that the agreement will go through a vetting process by the government and will be reviewed by the Constitutional Court before implementation.
“The regulation mentions that the commissions will rely on the 1991 Alma Ata Declaration as the fundamental principle for the delimitation process of the state border between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and if in the future the agreement on peace and establishment of interstate relations will envision other regulations, then this fundamental principle will be aligned with the principles defined in the aforementioned agreement,” the agreement states, according to the foreign ministry.
Minasyan, the justice ministry, confirmed that the agreement will be presented during Thursday’s cabinet meeting for discussion and approval, after which it will be sent to the Constitutional Court for vetting.
