Catholicos Aram I Spoke with Presidential Candidate Donald Trump by Phone
Detroit — On November 1, 2024, Donald Trump, former president of the United States and current presidential candidate of the Republican Party, contacted Catholicos Aram I by phone.
Trump expressed his appreciation for the wise leadership of His Holiness Aram I — who recently completed a tour of Eastern United States, reiterated his full support for the Artsakh issue and the establishment of a complete peace within the region. He also warmly welcomed the Armenians of the United States as an organized, active and powerful community.
His Holiness, first of all, expressed his appreciation and thanks to President Trump for his public statement regarding the rights of the Armenians of Artsakh a few days ago, while emphasizing the importance of the international role of the United States of America, especially in these turbulent times. Then, His Holiness clearly explained his two expectations to the presidential candidate:
a) It is necessary for the new government of the United States to express full support to the just demand of the Armenians of Artsakh to return to their historical lands and to reassert the right to self-determination, while demanding accountability for the genocide committed against the Armenians of Artsakh.
b) It is necessary for there to be a suitable person representing the American Armenian community in the new government.
Finally, His Holiness suggested that it is necessary to consult with the Eastern and Western Prelacies and officials of the Armenian National Committee of America in Washington regarding the mentioned issues.
It should be noted that on the last day of the pontifical visit of His Holiness to the Eastern Prelacy in Detroit, upon learning from the television about the presence of His Holiness in the city, two high-ranking officials of the presidential candidate Donald Trump had a meeting with His Holiness in the hotel where he was staying, and conveyed the candidate’s greetings and willingness to contact the Catholicos.
