GUSD to Celebrate Armenian-American Heritage Month on April 13

The Glendale Unified School District is set to host its second annual Armenian-American Heritage Month celebration. The event will be held on Saturday, April 13 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Hoover High School, located at 651 Glenwood Rd. Glendale, CA 91202. Campus doors will open at 9:45 a.m.

Join GUSD for student performances, along with panel discussions, speakers, and presentations from Armenian-Americans whose inspirational stories, hard work, and perseverance have gotten them to where they are today.

Guests at the event include GUSD Board of Education Members Shant Sahakian, Ingrid Gunnell, Kathleen Cross, Neda Farid, and Telly Tse; GUSD Superintendent Dr. Darneika Watson; and Filmmaker and Broadcast Journalist Ani Hovannisian Kevorkian.

Glendale Unified is the third largest school district in Los Angeles County, serving over 25,000 students in preschool through 12^th grade and beyond. GUSD schools focus on maximizing student achievement, fostering students’ social and emotional growth, and creating a vibrant, inclusive environment where all children can learn and thrive. More than half of GUSD students identify as Armenian-American, and nearly 30% speak Armenian as their primary language. In 2013, GUSD became the first school district to declare April 24 a student holiday in honor of Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day.
