Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s speech was controversial as he made it clear that the Diaspora is not part of the Armenian nation. Hilda Tchoboian, a French public figure of Armenian origin, told Armenian News-NEWS.am.
“This raises questions. Pashinyan says his goal is to ensure the development and prosperity of Armenia’s population, which does not include the Diaspora. And he says this in the presence of people who have done a lot for Armenia and Artsakh. He also says that the essence of the Diaspora hinders the security and prosperity of the population of Armenia.
In addition, Pashinyan is essentially saying that he has to create a new Armenian in Armenia. Pashinyan wants him to be the one who decides how the new Armenian will think. This creates a contradiction with the thesis that Armenia is a democratic country, as this issue should be decided by the people themselves.
In addition, the authorities speak about the allegedly harmful nature of the Diaspora, which hinders the normalization of relations between Turkey and Armenia.
The authorities divide the Armenian nation into two parts, and they say Armenia will not deal with the second part (Diaspora). This is a continuation of the thesis that the Armenians of Artsakh themselves should talk to Azerbaijan, and Armenia has nothing to do with these Armenians,” Tchoboian noted.
She said that about 90% of the French Armenians with whom Pashinyan met do not understand the Armenian language, so very few understood what he was talking about, therefore, they could not respond to his theses.
