“Strong Armenia” Party nominates Samvel Karapetyan as prime ministerial candidate
Explaining the party’s position, Narek Karapetyan referred to constitutional provisions regulating the appointment of the Prime Minister.
“Our Constitution contains 148 articles that define who may serve as Prime Minister. The Prime Minister is elected by a vote in the National Assembly, not through constitutional amendments. And what kind of election will take place on June 7?” he stated.
During the congress, participants were presented with legal opinions from constitutional law experts. According to these interpretations, the National Assembly has the authority to amend certain constitutional provisions without holding a referendum.
Narek Karapetyan added that 20 days after the elections, at the first sitting of the newly elected National Assembly, they intend to adopt the relevant legislative amendment. He stated that, following such changes, any individual could become Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia.
“At that point, Samvel Karapetyan will be a citizen of only the Republic of Armenia,” he said.
