Turkey’s Erdogan pressures Iran to support ‘Zangezur corridor’ via Armenia

“We [i.e. Turkey] already want to see peace and tranquility in the South Caucasus. Sustainable peace in the region will benefit everyone. We are happy that peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia is already on the horizon, and we are satisfied with it. We are closely following this process and making the necessary contributions. The peace achieved will be valuable for both Azerbaijan and Armenia, as well as for our country. We have a cautious normalization process with Armenia. Both our countries will benefit from peace and normalization [of their relations]. Therefore, there is no reason to worry,” Erdogan said.
According to him, the “Zangezur corridor” plan—via Armenia—will not only be a land route, but also a new line of integration into the Turkic world through Turkey.
“The opening of this corridor will strengthen the transport and energy infrastructure of the South Caucasus in the shortest possible time. We expect Iran to support steps that will contribute to peace and development in our region. Every step, every open door, every corridor will not only bring economic benefits, but also, ultimately, will bring the countries [in the region] closer together,” the Turkish leader said.
