Valley Economic Alliance Honors Cong. Luz Rivas and Cong. George Whitesides at 2026 Awards Recognition Night

On October 14, 2026, The Valley Economic Alliance welcomed nearly 200 elected officials, business executives, public safety leaders, and community stakeholders to its annual Awards Recognition Night. The event honored Congresswoman Luz Rivas and Congressman George Whitesides for their dedicated service and contributions to the San Fernando Valley.
Representing California’s 29th and 27th Congressional Districts, respectively, Congresswoman Rivas and Congressman Whitesides serve communities integral to the San Fernando Valley’s economic vitality and regional identity. The Alliance recognized both Members of Congress for their leadership, public service, and commitment to the communities they represent.
“Strong communities are built through dedicated leadership and a shared commitment to serving others,” said Armida Colmenares-Stafford, Board Chair of The Valley Economic Alliance. “We are proud to recognize Congresswoman Rivas and Congressman Whitesides for their dedication to the San Fernando Valley and their contributions to the communities that help make our region strong.”
Both members of Congress accepted their awards and addressed attendees, reflecting on their service and the communities they represent.
“The Valley’s economic vitality depends on strong relationships across government, business, and the broader community,” said Sonya Kay Blake, President and CEO of The Valley Economic Alliance. “The Alliance brings these sectors together around a shared purpose: creating opportunities for collaboration, aligning regional priorities, and strengthening the economic future of the San Fernando Valley.”
The evening featured a keynote address by David Brager, Chief Executive Officer of Citizens Business Bank. Mr. Brager received a special certificate of recognition from The Alliance honoring his leadership and meaningful contributions to the Valley’s business community.
Distinguished guests included Los Angeles City Councilmember Bob Blumenfield, Los Angeles Fire Department Chief Jaime Moore, and Los Angeles Police Department Deputy Chief Marla Ciuffetelli. Their presence underscored the regional significance of the evening.
The program opened with a presentation by the U.S. Army Color Guard, followed by an invocation from Father George Bet Rasho.
“Recognizing Congresswoman Rivas and Congressman Whitesides highlights the important connection between public service and the future of our region,” said Greg Martayan, Executive Vice President of External Affairs for The Valley Economic Alliance and Master of Ceremonies. “Their work in Congress helps shape the policies and priorities that affect Valley residents, businesses, and communities.”
The Valley Economic Alliance extends its gratitude to Citizens Business Bank, the event sponsor, for its support, and to Father George Bet Rasho and the Board of Trustees of St. Mary’s Church for graciously hosting the evening. Their partnership helped make the gathering possible.
